May Day 2018: Celebrating workers’ solidarity and action

The Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI) sends warmest socialist greetings to workers and young people everywhere who are fighting for justice and for socialism. We honour the pioneers of the labour movement and martyrs of the past; we remember those fighting capitalism and oppression in our lifetime who have risked their freedom and given their lives. We express solidarity with all who struggle against war, oppression and exploitation.

No to the bombing of Syria! Build a mass movement against the war

Donald Trump’s administration is gearing up for another possible round of missile strikes against regime targets in Syria. This could trigger an explosive chain of events potentially leading to a more serious military conflagration between major international and regional powers in the Middle East. Moscow has responded to Trump’s open threats by saying it would target US units involved in any attack on Syrian soil.

Gorbachev: Accidental architect of world change

Gorbachev: Accidental architect of world change

Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet Union’s last leader, left a truly historical legacy. Aiming to reform bureaucratic rule he helped unleash forces that led to the complete collapse of Stalinism in Russia and eastern Europe. International solidarity wins victories

International solidarity wins victories

Journalist, trade unionist and LGBT+ rights campaigner Ali Feruz has been released from prison in Russia after a six-month campaign of solidarity. Socialist Alternative in Russia and the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI) – to which the Socialist Party is affiliated – helped organise international protests to demand Ali’s freedom. Finally, he has been released and he and his partner have been granted asylum in Germany.

The Revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg

The Revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg

On 15 January 1919, Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, the finest brains of the German working class and its most heroic figures, were brutally murdered by the bloodthirsty, defeated German military, backed to the hilt by the cowardly social-democratic leaders Noske and Scheidemann. On this 99th anniversary, we look at Luxemburg’s inspirational, revolutionary legacy.

Sudan: Free Mohamed Satti and all political prisoners!

CWI supporter Mohamed Diaeldin Mohamed Satti, 21, known as “Hamudi”, is among the protesters who have been arrested by the Sudanese State last week, as part of the brutal response of Al Bashir’s regime to the ensuing wave of protests against skyrocketing prices and austerity. Hamudi’s arrest took place last Wednesday afternoon, as he participated in a peaceful march in central Khartoum.
